Western Growers conferred one of its top honors on Miles and Garland Reiter, brothers who head up separate berry businesses, during the organization’s 91st annual convention.
Miles Reiter, CEO of Watsonville, Calif.-based Driscoll’s, and Garland Reiter, CEO of Oxnard, Calif.-based Reiter Affiliated Cos., received Western Growers’ Award of Honor during an annual awards dinner. The convention was Nov. 6-9 in Koloa, Hawaii.
“The Reiter Brothers have been pioneers in the agriculture industry and both Reiter Affiliated Cos. and Driscoll’s are synonymous with quality berries,” Western Growers’ Chairman Larry Cox said in introducing the winners. “The key to their success? Commitment.”
Western Growers credited the brothers with having expanded the market for berries and developing new berry commodities for consumers.
“We’ve been down the road a lot together and feel good about what we’ve accomplished throughout the years,” Miles Reiter said in a news release.
It was only the second time in Western Growers history that the annual Award of Honor has gone to more than one winner.
“The inspiration for us has been the customer and consumer interest,” Garland Reiter said in a news release. “Looking ahead with enthusiasm and gray hair, we feel that we have invested in the next generation and new talent to move forward. If we continue to listen in the field, engage with consumers and empower our youth, we will further bring diversity and success to agriculture.”
