Local Berry Grower Invites Community Residents to Weekend of Farms and Food
November 2, 2018 – (Oxnard, California) – Laguna Farms, a berry grower in Ventura County, is participating in the 6th Annual Ventura County Farm Day, hosted by non-profit Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG).
Farm Day participants are invited to visit Andrea Ranch, an all organic raspberry ranch in Oxnard between the hours of 10:00AM and 3:00PM on Saturday, November 3, 2018. Guests will see and hear about traditional in-ground raspberries and how innovation and technology have influenced the future of farming with substrate (container) raspberries.
“We are very proud to be participating in Farm Day,” said Jose Martinez, owner of Laguna Farms. “My family and I have been farming in Ventura County for more than 20 years, and this event gives us a great opportunity to share our passion for agriculture with the community. I invite everyone to come and visit our ranch, taste our berries, meet my family, and learn about how we grow the very best quality berries.”
Laguna Farms, an independent grower for Driscoll’s, was established in 2000 by Jose Martinez in partnership with Reiter Affiliated Companies. Jose first started working in agriculture at a young age while helping his father tend to the land and animals they were responsible for in Mexico. After immigrating to the U.S. in 1986, Jose pursued his passion for agriculture and worked as a general laborer for Reiter Brothers, Inc.
A few years later Jose became a share grower and then eventually formed a partnership in 2000. Supported by his family and a dedicated team, Jose has grown Laguna Farms from its humble beginnings of 15 acres to more than 500 acres today.
Martinez shared the following message of gratitude on behalf of himself and the Martinez family, “Thank you to my family, especially to my wife Maria Elena, my daughters Carmen, Cassandra, Valeria and Andrea for sharing my passion of agriculture. Thank you to everyone and to the Reiter family for giving me the opportunity to be part of their operations and those who share the same dedication and passion for agriculture. Thank you to our entire community who undoubtedly is the engine that has led Laguna Farms for these 18 years.”
