Vision and Values
RAC management believes actions speak louder than words. The ability to cultivate the human connection - how an employee interacts with others - is super important to an employee’s success.
RAC’s vision and values guide the actions of managers and employees. The company’s guiding principles - shown below - are the path to get them to their vision. RAC’s values-based management style is a strong competitive advantage.
VISION
To be Driscoll’s Best Berry Solution
RAC is the largest fresh berry supplier in North America. Its performance directly impacts its sole customer Driscoll Strawberry Associates (Driscoll’s). RAC seeks to always provide the berry quality and quantity needed to meet Driscoll’s customer needs. Being Driscoll’s best berry solution is key to RAC’s continued success.
VALUES
Honesty, Fairness, Respect
RAC has grown over the years at a rapid pace. As it has grown, the importance of the core values has remained constant. A consistent understanding and practice of these values by employees across geographical districts is one of RAC’s proudest achievements.
All employees are expected to live the values in their daily work. This extends to the employees relationship, their manager, their co-workers, Driscoll’s Berries staff, vendors, landlords, potential recruits, and the external community.
RAC uses multiple tools to evaluate their actions. These include job plans which identify annual goals for employees and a 360 degree feedback process which gives team feedback to employees. RAC wants employees that are willing to grow and receive feedback in a honest, fair, and respectful way. Through the right tools and coaching, RAC gives every employee their best chance to succeed.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Entrepreneurial, Passionate, Fun, Innovative, Bi-Cultural
While the RAC vision and values are expected of all employees daily, the guiding principles are the roadmap that helps RAC deliver on its commitments to Driscoll’s. Each of the guiding principles interacts and drives the other guiding principles. The guiding principles apply to all aspects of the business: be it cultural practices on the field, how management practices are employed, or financial targets achieved.
Entrepreneurial
RAC encourages entrepreneurial practices among ranch managers, supervisors, and employees while at the same time sharing common processes to improve efficiencies.
This means that employees are given the freedom to try new ideas, while also helping them learn from others who have demonstrated excellent results.
Passionate
With a strong sense of ownership, it is not surprising to see the passion with which RAC employees approach their jobs. They share the gains and losses of their ranch, office, and district. Working at RAC is rewarding when everyone is motivated to achieve individual and group success.
Fun
From the early days of the company to the present, RAC is a place where people know each other by name. Family ties are respected. End-of-harvest celebrations, group lunches, sports outings, breakfast burritos and birthday parties are common occurrences. The employees work hard and play hard and they really know how to have fun!
Innovative
Innovation is not just for the research and development staff at RAC. All employees are expected to innovate. It takes the input of all levels - from harvester to irrigator to truck driver to puncher to office staff – to come up with the best ideas and processes to follow. The “Team RAC” philosophy is to innovate across departments, across districts, and in RAC’s relations with Driscoll’s.
Bi-Cultural
RAC operations in the US and Mexico, are equally important to the company’s success. All employees are encouraged to develop their foreign language skills, whether it is Spanish or English that is needed. As the company grows in Portugal and other countries in the future, employees continue to expand their understanding of new cultures and societies.
